Solving Lake Superior’s Mysteries – 7/6

July 6, 2019 @ 10:00 am – 11:30 am
Sugarloaf Cove Nature Center

Lake Superior is a very big and very deep lake. These factors make collecting data such as temperature and water quality difficult. However, the University of Minnesota’s Large Lakes Observatory and the EPA have a solution – gliders.

EPA researcher, Tom Hollenhorst, will take you on a journey through the waters of Lake Superior. Tom will talk about the gliders – autonomous underwater vehicles, which collect data by diving down into the water column and back to the surface as they travel through the lake to sets of programmed GPS coordinates.
